Fire and Bannock

Today we made a fire all by ourselves. It was very warm.

And then we made bannock.

Here is the Recipe!
Ingredients:
2 c (cups) flour
1/2 tsp (teaspoon) salt
1/2 tsp sugar
4 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 c cold water

Method:
Mix all the dry ingredients together. Then add the water and mix quickly until you have a smooth batter. Heat oil in a pan over the hot fire. Pour the batter in the pan and cook until both sides are brown. You can check to see if the inside is cooked by poking a toothpick (haburashi) in the middle of the bannock. If the toothpick comes out clean, it is ready!

The bannock was yummy!

First Day of Spring

Happy first day of Spring everyone!

On the evening of March 18, the first baby pony was born on the Hiratasan horse ranch.

Julia's baby, (Janet's sister), is very cute. She is dark brown and she has a white spot on her forehead.

We enjoyed visiting her and some of the other horses and ponies.

Christmas Fun

We chopped down the Christmas tree.
And then we carried it to the cabin and decorated it with our homemade dried lemons and popcorn garlands.

Merry Christmas everyone.

I is for Ice

E is for egg
F is for feather
G is for grass
and H is for horse.

I is for ice. Why are these rocks not sinking to the bottom of the pond?

That's right! It is because there is a thin layer of ice on the pond holding them up.

J is for jacket
K is for kindling
and L is for leaf.

See you next time for more ABC nature hunting!
