Signs of Spring
These are some signs of spring:
-pussy willows (nekoyanagi)
-ladybugs (tentomushi)
-baby pony Bella Luna ("beautiful moon" in Italian and "kirei na tsuki in Japanese)
-butterflies (chocho)
And butterburs (fukinoto)!
We went to the river to pick butterburs.
We washed butterburs.
We fried butterburs.
We made butterbur tempura.
Butterburs are a little bit bitter (nigai) but they are yummy!

Fire and Bannock
Today we made a fire all by ourselves. It was very warm.
And then we made bannock.
Here is the Recipe!
Ingredients:
2 c (cups) flour
1/2 tsp (teaspoon) salt
1/2 tsp sugar
4 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 c cold water
Method:
Mix all the dry ingredients together. Then add the water and mix quickly until you have a smooth batter. Heat oil in a pan over the hot fire. Pour the batter in the pan and cook until both sides are brown. You can check to see if the inside is cooked by poking a toothpick (haburashi) in the middle of the bannock. If the toothpick comes out clean, it is ready!
The bannock was yummy!
