Christmas Fun

We chopped down the Christmas tree.
And then we carried it to the cabin and decorated it with our homemade dried lemons and popcorn garlands.

Merry Christmas everyone.
See you next year!

I is for Ice

E is for egg
F is for feather
G is for grass
and H is for horse.

I is for ice. Why are these rocks not sinking to the bottom of the pond?

That's right! It is because there is a thin layer of ice on the pond holding them up.

J is for jacket
K is for kindling
and L is for leaf.

See you next time for more ABC nature hunting!

ABCD Nature Hunt

For our last class we walked up the small mountain to the cabin.
It was a beautiful day!
We played the game "Follow the Leader" while we walked.
At the cabin we ate raisin bread and learned some new nature words.

A - Acorn
B - Bug
C - Cloud
D - Dirt

We found all of these things on our ABCD Nature Hunt.

See you next week!

Happy Halloween

To celebrate Halloween we carved pumpkins into Jack 'o lanterns, played bingo in the cabin, lit fireworks from the fire, and went trick-or-treating!

Happy Halloween!

Picking Hardy Kiwi Fruit

This is hardy kiwi fruit (kokuwa).

This is how you pick hardy kiwi berries.
1. Find the vines.
2. Climb the tree.
3. Shake the branches.
4. Gather the fruit.
5. Eat the hardy kiwi berries.

Minori-chan and her mother drew pictures of their hardy kiwi fruit picking experience. The last picture asks, "How do they taste?" Minori-chan smiles and says, "good!"

Autumn Returns

Welcome back.

It is so nice to see everyone again!

There is a special holiday at this time of the year in Canada. It is called, 'Thanksgiving' and it is celebrated the second week of October.

At this time Canadians are thankful for the bountiful harvest. Families often get together for a special dinner. They normally eat roasted tureky with stuffing, vegetables from the garden, and apple or pumpkin pie!

Last week the tNt Adventures in English students did a little harvesting too. They went into the garden to pick the carrots and burdock that they planted in the spring.

Of course we shared some of the carrots with the horses too!

We then went for a walk looking for red, green, yellow, orange, and brown leaves.

Autumn sure is colourful!

Wild Strawberries

On our walk to the river, we saw beautiful purple and pink lupin flowers and cute ponies in the field. We were surprised to find many wild strawberries ready for picking! As we didn't have any containers with us, Tomohiro made cups out of fuki leaves.

I used the berries we picked to make wild strawberry rhubarb jam. We can taste it during the summer barbecue that we will have this Saturday! Let's catch some fish to put on the grill too!

The Cabin on the Mountain

It was a hot and sunny day today. The daikon and lettuce seedlings are growing in the garden!

We went to the cabin and hammered nails into blocks of wood.

We listened to the semi (cicada) and picked edible mountain plants (warabi).

The carpenter!

Planting the Vegetable Garden

We planted Japanese radish seeds, carrot seeds, lettuce seeds, and burdock seeds.
Now let's care for them and watch them grow!

Tadpole Hunting
